On Wednesday 4 October 2023 system partners convened to discuss growing use of the Patient Activation Measure (PAM) across the Lincolnshire health and care system.
Partners from Insignia Health joined the meeting to deliver the county report and share further insight into the Flourish system.
Ahead of the meeting, we began to collate data to establish a CS-PAM score. CS-PAM is a series of questions for workforce colleagues to complete in order to ascertain how prepared they are use the Patient Activation Measure approach.
Interestingly, this data gathering highlighted three areas of perceived lower importance across the workforce:
This information is of real interest to the It's About People Personalisation team as it gives us a real sense of the task ahead of us. We know that a truly person-centred approach requires a different relationship between the health and care provision and the public, so raising the profile of these three items is going to be key as we move forward.
During the session, Naomi Cunningham-Dexter (Insignia) presented PAM data that had been captured through the Flourish system. This enabled us to see a cost benefit based upon the changes in PAM scores and levels in Lincolnshire.
Although this was modelled using American data, it provided us with a small taster of the kind of reporting we can begin to pull alongside user figures and interactions.
We look forward to seeing this re-modelled with the English equivalents later in the year but in the meantime, you can find a recording of the presentation below along with a downloadable version of the report and the slides in the blue box on this page.
We also heard from Stacey Glen (Insignia) about the Coaching for Activation tool that is built into Flourish.
Use of this tool is currently limited in Lincolnshire, so we will be examining why this is the case and encourage colleagues who are using Coaching for Activation to provide feedback on their experience.
This library of resources can help people find appropriate resources and set suitable goals based on the person’s current PAM level.
It is well worth experimenting with as Jane Hall (ULHT) informed us previously. Jane is the Service Lead for Late Effects in the cancer pathway and talks highly of the system and how it supports her to remember the range of resources that are out there.
