You may be aware that Social Work Week for 2024 takes place on the 18th to 22nd March, with World Social Work Day falling on Tuesday 19th March too. The theme for the week is ‘Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change' - which is based on the belief that true wellbeing is only possible as part of a community. This theme serves as a timely reminder of the transformative role health and social care colleagues play in driving positive change and fostering communities that thrive on mutual respect and sustainability.
Across the week, LCC have arranged some activities that everyone is welcome to partake in and they are encouraging you to arrange your own celebrations within your own teams too. Within Lincolnshire there will be webinars, wellbeing walks, learning sessions and showcasing events that are advertised here. Volunteers from our wider social care community, are being asked to share information about their job roles and what community means to them. This information will be shared throughout the week, as well as at a showcasing event at ‘The Quad’ in Lincoln who are launching their 'Give, Get, Grow' seed giving activity at the same time. This ties in with the themes of the week; community and sustainability.
Social Work England have also arranged some free information sessions each day as well as other independent learning sessions too, please see their website for more details: Social Work Week - Social Work England
If you want to learn more about what is happening locally or have any ideas that you wish to share, please contact AlisonX.Smith@lincolnshire.gov.uk . We are looking forward to as many of you as possible joining in with our celebrations so download the timetable and get involved!
Chris Erskine, Principal Social Worker explains:
World Social Work Day enforces the idea that we are all connected, and our future depends on every person’s involvement in building a socially just future. Anyone can come together for World Social Work Day, including social workers, partner organizations, and those who care about the future to change our world for the better. World Social Work Day is observed every year on the third Tuesday in March. The day recognizes the hard work and diligence of social workers. On this day, a global organization of social workers advocates for social justice, human rights, and social development while promoting the best practices in social work. Social workers serve many roles in our communities. They work with people so that they live the best life that they can and meet their and their community’s needs and challenges. As advocates, they speak up for people, support them to connect with the resources they need to improve their lives.
