Pop-up-style events have been multiplying in Lincolnshire thanks to colleagues 'Being prepared to do things differently' (which is Our Shared Agreement, Foundation 1)
In 2023, The It's All About People Personalisation Programme Team set out to do something different to understand and meet the needs and wants of people with Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.
Using the Our Shared Agreement Five Foundations as a guide, the team worked closely with health, care, and wellbeing partners from across the Lincolnshire system, along with members of the public, to 'make the most of what we have available to us' (Our Shared Agreement, Foundation 5) and bring it all together to create the pop-up 'health village' concept.
The Pop-Up Event format, brings together a wide range of services and opportunities in one location, creating a 'one-stop-shop' of support and guidance for the members of the public that attend.
Matt Evans, It's All About People MSK Personalisation Project Manager:
"The first of these pop-up events, Grantham Joint Aches and Pains Hub, took place at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre on 11 January 2024. This event brought together representatives from GP surgeries, Grantham and District Hospital, One You Lincolnshire, community physiotherapists, pain management services, Lincolnshire County Council, the charity sector, South Kesteven District Council, Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire, and many more services and organisations.
"This, of course, offered huge benefits for attending members of the public. In just one visit, people were able to discover and explore a wide range of services and opportunities to help them manage their musculoskeletal conditions. Many of these opportunities were often already located in their communities but were previously unknown to them.
"The 'non-clinical' setting - a leisure centre as opposed to a GP practice or hospital - and the informal and actively welcoming and engaging nature of the event made it easy and 'natural' for the public to meet and 'get to know' participating services, share their stories and access appropriate services and resources that will make a real difference to them.
"Not only did the event provide a unique 'one-stop-shop' for visiting members of the public, it was also a huge benefit to participating organisations, serving to build mutual awareness, and through this, stronger partnerships, providing the spark for future collaborative working. And participating health, care, and wellbeing colleagues found this 'different' approach refreshing and invigorating too!"
"Ultimately, these events are all about building, nurturing and celebrating 'community, and the pop-up events that have taken place so far have certainly had a significant impact in this respect."

Matt Evans:
" We commissioned independent research to explore the impacts of the Grantham Joint Aches and Pains event.
"ROC Research Consultancy provided a unique report and made suggestions to continue to develop the event model. One of the suggestions was to bring partners together to share learning. You can read more about this proposal here.
"Later, partners at Optum UK worked with Tala and the It's All About People Personalisation Programme Team to produce a handy 'How To' style guide."
This guide, which is available to download from the right-hand panel of this page, supports colleagues across Health and Care to consider seven key principles (see the diagram below) to develop and host a successful pop-up event.
Additional resource examples are also available from the right-hand panel that will help to support more people to access person-centred care in their community.
